Embera–Wounaan

The Embera–Wounaan are a group of semi-nomadic Indians in Panama. They live in small villages of 5 to 20 houses along the banks of the rivers throughout the Darien Province. The Embera-Wounaan were formerly and widely known by the name Chocó.

The artistic impulse of the people as well as economic necessity has transformed their crafts into works of art sold to both individual and institutional collectors in the outside world. In addition these products help preserve tropical rainforests by providing a sustainable income for forest peoples.
